How Fortical® Works

Your bones aren’t hard objects, like rocks. They are made up of
living tissue, and they grow and change, just like you do.
Your body
is always refreshing your bone tissue, so that your bones stay strong
and healthy. Your body breaks down old bone and builds new bone all
the time. After menopause, your bone tissue may break down faster than
new bone tissue can form. This may result in postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Fortical® Nasal Spray adds to the calcitonin in your
body. While Fortical® Nasal Spray is similar to
the calcitonin in your body, it is a stronger, or more potent, version.
The protein in Fortical® Nasal Spray is still being studied,
but it is thought to lower the activity of cells that break down bone. The
result is that, as new bone building continues, the thickness of the bone (the
bone mineral density, or BMD) increases.
